Anatomy & Physiology: Renal Nephron Filtration & Reabsorption

The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney, processing blood filtrate to maintain fluid balance and eliminate waste.

Nephron Segments

  • Glomerulus: Filters blood based on molecular size and charge.
  • Proximal Convoluted Tubule (PCT): Reabsorbs the majority of filtered water, sodium, glucose, and amino acids.
  • Collecting Duct: Final site of water reabsorption regulated by Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH).
